GoPro HERO7 Australia Price Release Date Specs

On 20 September 2018, GoPro announced the brand-spanking new versions of their latest HERO action camera, the GoPro HERO7!

Three HERO7 camera models were announced at the same time, including the all new GoPro HERO7 Black, HERO7 Silver and the HERO7 White.

The GoPro HERO7 is being pitched by GoPro as the 'camera gimbal killer' (the headline of the GoPro HERO7 press release is "Shaky Video Is Dead"). The gimbal killer boast surrounds the release of the HERO7's new, advanced, built-in image stabilization technology that GoPro are calling "HyperSmooth". HyperSmooth stabilization promises to provide the HERO7 Black user with "the best in-camera video stabilization ever featured in a camera".

HERO7 Specs Overview

Here's a quick break-down of the GoPro HERO7 specs and features, by model:

HERO7 Black Specs

The top of the line GoPro HERO7 Black specs are extensive (!), GoPro have clearly spent a lot of time, effort and focus in improving the HERO7 Black from its predecessors, the HERO5 and HERO6. The HERO7 Black's long list of specs include:

  • HyperSmooth Stabilization - Gimbal-like stabilization without the gimbal
  • Live Stream – automatic sharing as you live it while saving your streamed videos to your SD card in high definition
  • TimeWarp Video – Super-stabilized time lapse 'magic carpet ride' videos of your experiences, up to 30x speed
  • SuperPhoto – Intelligent scene analyzation for professional-looking photos via automatically applied HDR, Local Tone Mapping and Multi-Frame Noise Reduction
  • Portrait Mode – Native vertical-capture for easy sharing to Instagram Stories, Snapchat and more
  • Enhanced Audio – Re-engineered audio captures increased dynamic range, new microphone membrane reduces unwanted vibrations during mounted situations
  • Intuitive Touch Interface – 2-inch touch display with simplified user interface enables native vertical (portrait) use of camera
  • Face, Smile + Scene Detection – HERO7 Black recognizes faces, expressions and scene-types to enhance automatic QuikStory edits on the GoPro app
  • Short Clips – Restricts video recording to 15- or 30-second clips for faster transfer to phone, editing and sharing. Great for new users and kids.
  • Photo Timer – Countdown timer for convenient selfies and group shots
  • Stunning Image Quality – 4K60 video and 12MP photos
  • Ultra Slo-Mo – 8x slow motion in 1080p240
  • Rugged and Waterproof – Waterproof without a housing to 33ft (10m), goes everywhere your phone can't
  • Voice Control – Verbal commands let you go hands-free in 14 languages
  • Auto Transfer to Phone – Your photos and videos move automatically from camera when connected to the GoPro app for on-the-go sharing
  • GPS Performance Stickers – Track speed, distance and elevation, then highlight them by adding stickers to videos in the GoPro app
  • Touch Zoom – Frame your photos and videos with just a touch

WOW! Ok, the standout features, in our opinion, compared to previous GoPro HERO cameras are the new HyperSmooth image stabilization, Live Stream (if you like to stream live), portrait mode for social media, 1080p 240 frames per second Ultra Slo-Mo video and the enhanced audio - high audio quality was not something GoPro was known for.

HERO7 Silver Specs

The GoPro HERO7 Silver is a step down from the HERO7 Black in terms of features, however, it is by no means lacking in video, photo and audio quality and features. Call-out features of the HERO7 Silver include:

  • 30FPS 4K Video - for super crisp video
  • 10 megapixel photos with wide dynamic range (WDR), for bright, beautiful imagery
  • Rugged, waterproof design - waterproof to 10m
  • Touch screen on the reverse side - handy to swipe through shots / tap through modes
  • Voice control - 15 hands-free commands, including to start recording hands free

HERO7 White Specs

The HERO7 White model is the entry-level GoPro model in the HERO7 range and has the following highlighted features:

  • Full HD video and time-lapse videos
  • 10 megapixel photos
  • Voice control - 15 hands-free commands, including to start recording hands free

Conclusion

With the HERO7 announcement, GoPro have clearly addressed a number of criticisms of previous GoPro models - image stabilization and audio, making the GoPro HERO7 a lightweight, high performance, BEAST of an action camera and in doing so, making it a genuine option for vlogging and capturing all of your travel, action and life adventures.
