The Truth About Diets

We all diet for various reasons, but when it comes down to it we all want to lose weight. What if I told you the best diet is not having a diet? The dreaded “D” word or DIET is in my top five most hated words, EVER.

Low-fat dietshigh-protein dietsall-vegetable diets, the Master Cleanse, no-carb diets, liquid diets, the celery diet; I mean where do people come up with these? Every time we open a magazine we are bombarded with a different way to shed those extra pounds we have been carrying around—all of which are unhealthy and downright unappealing.

Most of us diet for various reasons, but when it comes down to it we all want to lose weight. I have done my fair share of dieting and it has taken me years and many fad diets later to find out the best diet is not having one! Imagine that! I used to deprive myself of foods I loved so much that in the ended up gaining all the weight back and then some. As far as I’m concerned, dieting is one of the most detrimental things you can do for both your physical and mental well being, not to mention your mood and social life. Eating shouldn’t have an expiration date. It should be a way of life. You should learn to love food, instead of seeing it as the bad guy.

My biggest suggestion to those struggling to lose weight dieting - don’t rush. You didn’t gain the weight in a week and you won’t lose it in a week. Through clean eating, portion control, and exercise the weight will come off and best of all you will have a body you can be proud of.

To all you egg lovers out there, here is a quick and easy anytime recipe to help get you started on your journey (remember it’s not a sprint, this is a lifetime commitment I’m talking about here) to a clean and healthy lifestyle.

SIMPLE POACHED EGG WITH MUSHROOMS AND AVOCADO

Ingredients

1 egg ½ avocado 4 white mushrooms 1 ciabatta roll

How to poach an egg

Fill a small saucepan halfway with water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, bring the heat down to a simmer. Add a pinch of sea salt (this will bind the proteins of the egg together) Add two tablespoons vinegar. With a spoon, stir the water in a clockwise motion until there is a slight whirlpool in your saucepan. While in motion, crack your egg in to the middle of the whirlpool. The motion of the water will turn your egg into the perfect circle. Cook egg for desired time - 1 ½ min for runny yolk; 2 min for runny yolk and cooked egg whites; 3 min for hard poached. Use strainer or small utensil to remove your egg Once your egg is poached, sauté up your mushrooms and assemble your sandwich however you like and enjoy!
