Fitbit Charge 4 Specs & Features

Jam-packed with an array of exciting new features, the Fitbit Charge 4 includes the following major feature upgrades from the previous Charge models:

  • Built-in GPS tracking - onboard the device, no longer requiring a smart phone and includes workout intensity map displaying your heart rate along your route
  • Active Zone Minutes - allowing you to see which heart rate zone you’re training in
  • Spotify music control - requires Spotify Premium account and phone nearby
  • Fitbit Pay - now across all editions of the Charge 4 (for participating Fitbit Pay banks & transport systems in Australia)
  • Advanced sleep features including smart wake (not available for launch, released soon) that uses machine learning to wake you at the optimal time

With respect to the utility of the device, the two new Charge 4 features we’re delighted to see added to this full-featured activity tracker are the built-in GPS tracking and Fitbit Pay across all Charge 4 models (editions).

Built-in GPS

For regular outdoor exercisers, built-in GPS has arguably been the one Achilles heel of previous generations of Fitbit Charge devices. Onboard GPS brings a huge amount more utility to this device, blurring the lines between activity tracker and running GPS watch. Very excited to see built-in GPS, new to the Charge 4 model (finally!).

Fitbit Pay

Another Charge 4 feature that brings a great deal of utility to your everyday is Fitbit Pay. The inclusion of Fitbit Pay across all Charge 4 models (previously it was only available in the Charge 3 Special Edition models) means that for small payments on the go you’re covered. Forget to take a drink bottle on your run, stop by a convenience store and tap and go with Fitbit Pay. Grabbing coffee after a session with a workout buddy but don’t want to take your wallet? Fitbit Pay it. Forgot your Opal card to tap on and off the train, light rail or ferry in Sydney? Tap on/off with your Fitbit Charge 4. Fitbit Pay is a pretty handy new feature!

Other Charge 4 Features

Other features of the Fitbit Charge 4 that have carried over from previous models:

  • Heart rate tracking (24/7 tracking including resting heart rate via optical sensor)
  • Breathing sessions guided by the Charge 4
  • Swim-proof to 50m, automatically tracking swim workouts + wear in the shower & pool
  • Advanced sleep tracking, including use of Fitbit's relative SpO2 sensor
